There are certain industries that are considered to be recession proof, with healthcare sitting at the top of a very short list. The fact of the matter is that people are always going to get sick and infirm, and that means that there will always be a demand for medical professionals and in-home caregivers. The demand for the latter is very much on the rise, as the number of seniors in the United States  in Pembroke Pines, Fort Lauderdale, and Sunrise FL continues to grow. There are real opportunities in the caregiver field, and what may come as a surprise to many of you is that it is not a particularly tough field to get into.

The requirements to become a certified caregiver vary from state to state, which is why you should always find out what you need to do to get started in the area where you live. For the purposes of this piece, we are going to focus on the steps required to become a certified caregiver in Florida. As mentioned earlier, it is not a particularly difficult path, but it’s one that you are definitely going to need to follow if you want to be certified in the state of Florida.

The first thing that you need to be aware of is that you do not need to be in possession of a high school diploma to become a certified caregiver in Florida. While a diploma isn’t necessary, we would never suggest that you quit high school in order to become a caregiver. This is particularly true if you are using the caregiver certification as a stepping stone to become a Certified Nursing Aide. We absolutely recommend that you finish high school first before moving onto the next step. If you are already out of high school with no diploma and are happy to stay in the position of certified caregiver, then know that you can still move ahead with the process.

The next step is to find a school that offers the Certified Caregiver training course. You are only looking at about 8 hours of training here, so chances are you will be able to take the course online. You will need to pass a test at the end of the 8-hour training period, and should you pass, your name will then be added to the official Certified Caregiver database, making it possible for potential employers to see that you can be hired for a caregiver position.

There is no on the job training required to complete the course, although it is ever a bad idea to seek out some experience. You might consider looking for organizations that offer volunteer caregiver services, as you can then spend some time helping the type of people you will be asked to look after when you become a certified caregiver. Not only will you get some valuable experience, you will also quickly learn whether this is the type of work that you want to devote the rest of your life to.
